And it's official! I GOT THE JOB!!! I was so thrilled at the mere prospect of working for them, and to have it land on my lap! What a unique and exciting opportunity!! I know I will love this position, and my experience today will exhibit EXACTLY why that is....
So I'm on my way to my interview, completely nervous, heeding the pre-emptive warning of the Vice President's stern, demeanor. Seconds from the plaza, I get cut-off by a red passat, who coincidentally parks in my now "designated" parking spot. I say ARG and reverse into the next closest spot. Before I get a chance to apply my E-Brake, the driver has dashed, practically running into Spence. So I walk in, to be seated by the VPs office, and look over to my left, where is he anxiously awaiting for the Sales Rep. to accomodate him... He looks sincerely nervous, yet excited, when she approaches. Then, shuffling through all his pockets, he is relieved to find and pull out a many-times-folded piece of paper. It is at this moment that I realize why he is here, and i instantly forgive him for his driving faux pas.
Before he gets a chance to hand it to her, she explains to him that he is "free to look around the open-displays and grab at whatever ring catches his eye...there are over 3000 prototypes to choose from," leaving a blank look on his face. He seems overwhelmed... but shyly tells her, "These are the styles I picked off of your website." She smiles and takes him over to the receptionist desk to find them on the website, and where they would be locaated in the showroom. He seems more nervous as she reviews his picks, and before he collapses of nerve-anxiety, she says to him...'WOW, you have great taste." He says "Thanks," seeming assured and confident, a breathes a sigh of relief..His nerves relax, and he is now more excited than anything as she locates the styles and guides him out-of-sight to the other side of the showroom floor...
That had to be one of the most sincere things that I have ever witnessed. So full of raw emotion, withiin such a short amount of time. I could tell he was feeling a million things, and the fact that she could help, and resassured his choices, took a huge weight off of his shoulders. I am SO HAPPY to be given the opportunity to help others during such an incredible, life-altering, milestone in their lives. Witnessing that gave me a breath of fresh air, and really made me want this job even more. As I entered, and left the interview, I felt confident, and happy knowing that if given the opportunity, I would truly gain an chance to do something that would not only make others happy, but would make ME happy. I am looking forward to having my own experiences like that.
